Tempest in the Glass

In the past, during times of social upheaval, I have gone into my garden to construct photographs using the surface of a glass table as a significant prop. Late in the fall of 2025, when I realized our country was entering a phase of new crises, I chose to retreat back into my quiet garden and begin a new series of photographs in which I explore the ways changing daylight and seasons distort shadows and reflections on that horizontal glass surface. I place once living forms that are in the process of decay, worn pages from old books and magazines, as well as transparent items on or under the glass table. Many of the objects I choose to photograph are a response to the flurry of disturbing events that cycle through our daily news. I often apply water and paint to the transparent surface and let the outside elements, such as rain, snow and temperature transform the texture of the glass. It is through the richness of color that allows me to express my varying emotions.

I then take pictures of the glass surface’s evolution from early morning to dusk. in this way the series, Tempest in the Glass, is an examination of my worries as I escape onto my newly constructed worlds, while considering the events that happen beyond my garden.
